How does weather affect lineman safety?

Severe weather significantly increases hazards and risks for linemen. Inclement conditions such as thunderstorms, high winds, lightning, and heavy rain can create dangerous situations. For instance, high winds can make it difficult to safely work at heights, as they may cause equipment to sway or shift unexpectedly. Rain can lead to slippery surfaces and reduce grip, increasing the likelihood of falls. Lightning poses an extreme danger, as linemen are often working with tall structures that can attract lightning strikes. In addition to these conditions, visibility can be poor during severe weather, complicating both the assessment of hazards and the execution of work tasks. Consequently, linemen must be trained to recognize the increased risks associated with severe weather and to take appropriate measures to ensure their safety and that of their coworkers.
